The British Museum Untold!
Dr Julia Farley and I are pals and have been since she was convinced to do the Z list Dead List back in 2016. You can listen to that here (it is about Cartimandua who was waaaay better than Boudica). Since then we’ve worked together a bit on Radio 4 and I’ve been pestering her to do more audio with me as she is great and easily distracted by random objects.
Over the winter we have been recording some episodes of The British Museum Untold (the revamped membercast) about the international work and projects The British Museum is involved with. We’ve been helped along the way by the excellent membership team at the museum and our new exec producer Paul who has added to the soundscape of the episodes and making us sound much posher than old membercast episodes.
Topics range from Beirut’s shattered glass to training conservators to reinterpreting pacific island artifacts to helping ship objects abroad.
My favourite episode is probably episode 0102 as the thunderbird god really has been chasing me since recording. Sebastian Rey was fascinating and I loved learning about early cuneiform. Also it was very disappointing that Rana’s mildly erotic finds didn’t make the edit, but I’ll leave that to your imagination.
