BLACKWELL'S BOOK OF THE MONTH
Blackbeard’s Treasure has been selected by Blackwell’s Bookshop to be their Children’s Book Of The Month for January.
I’m dead chuffed. My editor Hannah and I worked really hard getting this historically accurate pirate book right. It was particularly tricky as I wanted to include the stuff that usually gets whitewashed out of the story of the Golden Age of Piracy which is the horrible History of the transatlantic slave trade. Why? Because it is one of the main reasons there were pirates at the time. I also had a lot of fun making sure the pirates were where I said they were at the time… I think fans of Charles Vane will note he turns up a bit late at one point, at there is a bit more cannon fire towards the end than there was… but otherwise, the boats, the pirates and the events are pretty bang on.
